The UK hit cookery show The Great British Bake Off is to be localised by APJ & Co for Thai audiences, following a deal with BBC Studios Distribution.

The deal marks the first Asian version of the Love Productions format, which will hire on Thailand’s free-to-air digital terrestrial network PPTV in summer 2019.

The Great Bake Off is a competition format to find and crown the best amateur baker. Over eight weeks, 12 of the country’s best amateur bakers face increasingly difficult challenges in different disciplines, after which the least successful leaves the bake-off. The Thai version will follow the format.

“We are thrilled that the phenomenally successful The Great Bake Off has made its way onto Asian television. It is an incredibly loved format that has captured the hearts (and stomachs) of families, and especially the younger demographic, worldwide. Thailand is a key market for us in Asia, and we are very pleased to be working with APJ & CO to adapt The Great Bake Off for this market, and are confident of its success” said Myleeta Aga, SVP and GM of South and South East Asia, BBC Studios.

Ardkit Suntornwat, managing director and executive producer of APJ & CO said: “Bakes in Asia are so different from what we see from our Western counterparts. The Great Bake Off is a fantastic format to showcase this diversity of baking in Asia, and I am looking forward to seeing how this Thai version plays out”.

Based in Bangkok APJ & Co has already produced recent seasons of The Voice Thailand.

The Great Bake Off is now licensed to 32 countries, including Spain, Italy, Denmark, Australia, Greece, Kenya , South Africa, Argentina, and Chile.
