BBC entertainment format Dancing with the Stars is heading for Myanmar, following its sale to private media broadcasting and production company Forever Group.

Forever Group will produce the localised version of the celebrity dance show for free-to-air terrestrial network Myanmar Radio and Television 4 (MRTV-4), which it jointly operates with state owned MRTV.

The 15 episode series will debut in October, with a reach of 13.2 million households. It will be digitally simulcast on Pyone Play, which can be viewed online or via a mobile app.

The Dancing with the Stars format sees local celebrities partner professional dancers to compete in a dance competition full of glitz and glamour. Every week, contestants have to learn a new dance and showcase their footwork on the dance floor, in a bid to impress a panel of judges and avoid elimination. The audience at home can also vote for their favourite contestant.

“Dancing with the Stars is our world leading dance entertainment brand, and we are very pleased to be working with the Forever Group to produce a local version. We look forward to the audience in Myanmar joining our Dancing with the Stars community later this year,” said Myleeta Aga, SVP and GM of South and South East Asia, BBC Studios.

Henri de Lorme, head of production, Forever Group said: “Dance, like music, are universal forms of expression, which could be why the BBC Studios format has been so successful around the world. We are very excited to be producing Dancing with the Stars Myanmar, and are confident of its succes”.
