The advocate group for gender diversity within the broadcast manufacturing and services sector, Rise, has gained broadcaster Sky as the latest company to come on board as a sponsor for its mentoring programme.

Sky’s broadcast engineering department will join Rise as a Gold Level sponsor and the company joins other several other Rise industry sponsors including Avid, Imagen, Clear-Com, NEP, DPP, Pixelogic and Bubble Agency.

“There are too few women working in broadcast engineering. It’s a small sector but with lots of opportunities and we need to inspire more young women and girls into broadcast roles,” commented Kat Lancaster, graphics and data solutions support manager at Sky. “I’m proud that Sky is fully committed to challenging the status quo and working with Rise to tackle the challenge.”

Rise director Carrie Wootten (right in picture) added: “We are absolutely delighted that Sky is joining us as a sponsor for our award-winning mentoring programme. When we first began this initiative in late 2017 we knew the power of mentoring and the difference that can be made in the lives of both the mentees and mentors, but the amount of recognition and support that has been shown this year is outstanding. I look forward to see where this new sponsorship with Sky takes Rise and how the programme continues to grow with their support, and the continued support of all our other industry sponsors.”

At its first joint event on 15 May focused on women in television engineering at Sky, and also hosted a panel about women in broadcast technology.
