The series finale of The Big Bang Theory on 16 May in the US brought a whopping 23.44 million viewers to CBS.

That makes it the most-watched non-sports programme of the 2018-19 season on any network or streaming platform, according to Nielsen’s live-plus-three ratings, which factors in three days of delayed viewing. In overnight ratings, the finale drew 16 million.

For adults 18-49, three days of delayed viewing gave the show a 4.6 rating for the broadcaster – just behind the Oscars in non-sports ratings.

The episode was the 279th and final instalment for The Big Bang Theory, which is the longest-running multi-camera series in television history.
