CNN’s London operation is to be reduced and shows moved to the news organisation’s Atlanta HQ.
The Guardian reported a number of posts will be relocated to Atlanta, but it’s understood that London-based staff wlll not automatically be considered. Up to 13 positions are said to be affected.
The announcement was made at a so-called ‘Town Hall’ meeting at CNN’s Central London office on Monday by CNN president Jeff Zucker.
90 minutes a day of London-based output will be lost from CNN International, which makes losses of around £8 million (€9.7m) a year, will see further shows shared with CNN’s US domestic network and additional repeats of the Christiane Amanpour programme.
However, there will be additional shows from CNN’s Abu Dhabi studios.
The move reflects a shift towards online content.
Earller this month, it was announced that Tony Maddox, the long-standing managing director of CNN International would be standing down after 21 years at the broadcaster.
US media reports AT&T has cut more than 23,000 jobs since the end of 2017. It had previously lobbied for a tax cut that it said would help it create several thousand jobs.
