The production and distribution arm of Sky, Sky Vision, has acquired the fourth season of the robot fighting hit series BattleBots.
The programme sees robots built by enthusiastic amateurs battle against each other in a knockout tournament until one champion wins the coveted Giant Nut. Featuring competitors from all over the world, it has proved a huge hit for ABC, Discovery Channel and Science Channel in the US. It claims to offer ‘the thrills and edge-of-your-seat tension’ of a major sporting tournament, combined with the latest in robot engineering and larger-than-life inventors.
Sky Vision has been lining up international deals for BattleBots over the last three years and has sold the first three series to broadcasters in more than 150 territories, including Germany, France, Spain, Ireland, Portugal, Turkey, Canada, Australia, Thailand, Latin America and Asia.
“The BattleBots series have been huge hits internationally, with audiences all over the world hooked on the action of the world’s largest robot fighting competition,” said Barnaby Shingleton, director of entertainment and factual, Sky Vision. “This time we’re able to offer an even longer series of 30 hours for loyal fans across the globe.”
The 2019 season of BattleBots premieres in the US on Discovery on 7 June and Science Channel on 12 June. The deal was agreed with BattleBots Inc. and Whalerock Studios. Sky Vision will represent the title in all territories excluding the USA.
