Ambani’s Jio GigaFiber reduces service entry point

Jio GigaFiber, the much anticipated entrant into India’s broadband sector, is lowering its entry point for viewers.

The Reliance company’s single point router requires a refundable security deposit of INR 2500, rather than the INR4500 announced in August, that is required for the Gigahub home gateway.

The service optical network terminal (ONT) service is priced lower and also limits the speed to 50Mbps rather than 100Mbps. Jio will also offer voice services as well as free 1,100GB data per month. The Gigahub home gateway, initially unveiled, was a dual band router with support for a 2.4 GHz and 5GHz bandwidth.

Jio GigaFiber is an optical-based home broadband service. The GigaFiber fibre to the home (FTTH) comes with two services — Jio GigaFiber router and the Jio GigaTV set-top box — and is launching in 1,400 cities.Since February 2019, the upcoming broadband service from Jio has achieved the highest internet speeds, according to Netflix ISP Speed Index Report.

Reliance Industries owner Mukesh Ambani plans to make an announcement on 5 July 2019 on the launch date for the service. The broadband connection will be implemented across India, starting in the major cities of Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Surat, Delhi, Jaipur, Kolkata, Mumbai, Vadodara, and Vishakhapatnam.
