Sony Entertainment Television (SET) is to introduce Indian viewers with its latest, home grown, talent format, Superstar Singer, from 29 June.
Co-produced by the independent business unit of Sony Pictures Networks India (SPNI), StudioNEXT, and The Talent Company (TCT), Superstar Singer will air each Saturday and Sunday at 8pm.
Celebrating the accomplishments of talented kids from six to 15, the judges will include music-director, composer and singer Himesh Reshammiya; Bollywood playback singer Javed Ali; and a well established playback singer Alka Yagnik.
The format also features four team captains - Jyotica Tangri, Salman Ali, Nitin Kumar, and Sachin Valmiki -who have travelled across India to select talent with a “refreshing sensibility and passion towards music”, said SET.
“Superstar Singer celebrates talent who are passionate towards singing. These contestants have been handpicked from across the country and bring with them a unique sense of musical expression. With the mentorship provided through this platform, the contestants will not only excel at what they do best but also will be well entrenched with the musical nuances under the tutelage of experts,” said Ashish Golwalkar, programming head, SET.
Creative director and producer Neeraj Sharma added: “Sony Entertainment Television as a GEC has always been on top when it comes to showing unique content. Being the pioneer in the non-fiction genre, Superstar Singer would be the next flag bearer.
“This is our first independent show and a Sony homegrown IP where we are excited to bring to the viewers exceptional talent followed by an esteemed panel of judges and strong captains who will motivate the kids. Seeing so much talent in the first season itself is really exciting, the show is sure to impress the audiences. We are looking forward to this musical journey,” added Sharma.
