Matt Thomson, managing director of online video pioneer TheNewsMarket has announced that he is leaving the company he co-founded after 19 years to pursue new business opportunities.

As SVP and later MD of the company, Thomson helped to integrate the businesses following the acquisition of Medialink Worldwide in 2009 and the combined company’s sale to the Atlanta-based agency Definition 6 in 2012. A year later, Thomson helmed TheNewsMarket’s partnership with digital and broadcast channels DMA Media to offer video production services to clients in Europe and Asia.

DMA subsequently acquired TheNewsMarket in 2017 and commenting on his departure, Thomson said “The tie-up between TheNewsMarket and DMA has been a phenomenal success. Matching TheNewsMarket’s technology with DMA’s expertise in content has been an award-winning formula. With the integration now complete, it’s time for the next chapter.”

DMA CEO Media Rob Beynon added: “Matt was a visionary in anticipating how brands can use video online and has continued to evolve TheNewsMarket’s offer with award-winning results. We thank him for his huge contribution to TheNewsMarket and DMA’s business.”
