National Geographic is producing a film documenting the visit of Pope Francis to Abu Dhabi in February, for distribution later this year.

Interfaith leaders from Washington DC and the UAE were treated to an exclusive premiere of The Peace Visit at National Geographic’s Abu Dhabi headquarters, according to news agency WAM.

The event coincided with the US State Department’s second Ministerial to Advance Religious Freedom.

"His landmark trip attracted worldwide attention, with all of the grandeur and formalities that come with a papal visit set to the stunning, dramatic backdrop of the Arabian Peninsula,” said National Geographic Partners chairman Gary Knell.

"But, this trip was more than just pomp and circumstance – it had a clear purpose: to promote tolerance across not only the Middle East, but the world.”

After the screening, a panel chaired by Dr James Zogby, president of the Arab American Institute, discussed the film and the impact of the pontiff’s visit on the UAE and the Middle East.

National Geographic Abu Dhabi was launched in 2009, as a joint venture between the Abu Dhabi Media Company and National Geographic Channels International.
