Full-service production company and digital content-creation studio specialising in lifestyle and comedy programming, Meetinghouse Productions, has closed a distribution deal with A+E Networks for the second season of Paranormal Caught on Camera.
Paranormal Caught On Camera showcases what it calls the “world’s weirdest, wildest and downright scariest videos.” In each episode of the 26 x 60’ series, a panel of expert commentators analyses footage of unexplained phenomena and the first-person stories behind it.
The first season of the show premiered to Travel Channel’s highest historic ratings since 2003, posting a 50% increase year-on-year for its time slot and ranking in the channel’s top three original series of all time. The second season, scheduled to transmit in January 2020, will again be executive produced by Jason Cilo for Meetinghouse and Charles Nordlander for Travel Channel. The show has now been picked up e.tv HD (Africa), Radx, Oasis Hifi (Canada), Canal D (French speaking Canada), Manoto (Middle East), WP (Poland) and Factual Programs (Spain), among others.
Commenting on the deal, Jason Cilo, president of Meetinghouse Productions, said: “As a US independent producer that regularly attends the international programming markets, we have a pretty good feel for what works for global viewers, and what doesn’t — and there’s no question that the only thing that’s explainable about the unexplained is that audiences love it. Travel Channel’s runaway success with Paranormal Caught On Camera is clear proof that if UGC clip shows are well made and have credibility, they can deliver exceptional results for a long time up and down a programming grid. With A+E’s help, we look forward to intriguing and terrifying many more people around the world.”
Richard Tulk-Hart, managing director, international content sales and co-productions, A+E Networks added: “Paranormal Caught On Camera ticks many boxes for our international buyers; a great tone that's really informative whether you believe or are a dedicated sceptic, a fantastic diversity of clips from all over the world, and Meetinghouse's signature quality of production, which means each episode has a glossy, highly-produced look and feel.”
