Cable One bleeds subs as ARPU rises

Phoenix-based regional cable company Cable One saw 30,277 video customers walk away in the second quarter – leaving it with just a mere 293,237.

However, average revenue per user was also up, by 4.9% year over year, to reach $71.80, as more customers migrated to the higher internet speed tiers.

Quarterly earnings came in at $6.35 per share, missing the Zacks Consensus Estimate of $7.76 per share. This compares to earnings of $7.65 per share a year ago.

Even so, Cable One's Q2 results showed that revenue was up 6.4% year over year to reach $285.7 million, as its broadband business stayed steady. Residential broadband revenue increased by 8.5% to reach $132.82 million, and Cable One added 20,393 customers in that segment.
