US Hispanic broadcaster Univision has promoted María Martínez-Guzmán to senior vice president and executive news director for Univision News.

In her expanded role, Martínez-Guzmán will head programming efforts for all daily Univision Network news properties, including the flagship newscast Noticiero Univision in its three editions (evening, late night and weekend), the midday newscast (Noticiero Univision Edición Digital), the newsmagazine Primer Impacto, the morning show Despierta América and the entertainment show El Gordo y La Flaca, as well as the Sunday morning political show Al Punto.

Executive producers for each of these news programmes will now report directly to Martínez-Guzmán, while she will report to Daniel Coronell, president of Univision News.

Martínez-Guzmán joined Univision family in 2002 after spending five years as news director for the McAllen, Texas local affiliate station Univision KNVO – Channel 48. During her tenure at Univision News’ headquarters in Miami, she has successfully held several positions, among them executive producer for the entire news division. In 2016 she was named vice president of newsgathering.

“This well-deserved appointment is a testament to María’s talent, expertise, leadership skills, hard work and unwavering commitment to helping Univision continue to be Hispanic America’s number one choice for news and information,” said Coronell. “For almost two decades, María has made incalculable contributions to the success of Univision News and has proven to be a great team player in addition to an extraordinary leader. We’re proud to have her, and confident that she will keep shining in this new role.”
