Liga MX drives Univision to No 1 ratings for Saturday night

Driven by the Liga MX showdown between America and Tigres UANL on 24 August, Univision finished as the No 1 broadcast network in the US, ahead of ABC, CBS, NBC and FOX among adults 18-49.

The match delivered triple-digit audience growth to the network’s 10:00 pm to 12:00 am time slot versus the same night in 2018, according to Nielsen, with total viewers 2+ (up 126% to 1.1 million), adults 18-49 (up 154% to 609,000) and adults 18-34 (up 164% to 198,000), making it the No 1 programme on all of broadcast television with the respective 18-to-34 and 18-to-49 demographics. The game also positioned Univision as the No 1 Spanish-language network for the entire night, out-performing Telemundo among total viewers 2+ (by 9%) and adults 18-49 (by 22%).

For the third consecutive week, Univision outperformed one or more of the English-language broadcast networks (ABC, CBS, NBC or FOX) on six out of seven nights among adults 18-34.

Univision also finished ahead of The CW during primetime for the 48th consecutive week since the start of the 2018/2019 season with week-over-week audience growth among total viewers 2+ (up 5% to 1 million).

And from Monday through Friday, the Nielsen data found that Univision increased its primetime audience among total viewers 2+ (up 6% to 1.1 million).
