Satellite maintains lion’s share of Euro pay-TV arena

Research firm Dataxis has released market data for the European pay-TV arena showing the growth and strategic importance of over-the-top services yet also highlighting the continued dominance of traditional platforms.
The analyst found that from the end of the first quarter of 2014 to the same period in 2019, the total subscription revenues of the direct pay-TV market has increased by 19%, reaching €8.9 billion in Q1 2019.
Looking at the core platforms, DTH remains the leading delivery technology accounting for 39% of total revenues while IPTV revenues amassed 30% and cable accounted for 26% of the total.
The Dataxis survey also showed that in Q1 2019 OTT pay-TV revenues now represented 3% of the total surpassing declining DTT (2%).
