Australia’s Seven Networks has commissioned a new eight-part factual series, Outrageous Weddings, from back2back Productions.
Brokered by UK sales and co-production agency Drive, Outrageous Weddings is a part documentary-part clip show, blending professional videographer wedding footage with UGC shot by guests. From the comic to the catastrophic, Outrageous Weddings is described as “an intimate, dramatic and compelling look at the world’s best — and worst — wedding stories”. The series is slated for delivery in December.
“Australia is one of the world’s most competitive TV markets, which makes selling a new series to one of the country’s highest rated network a real milestone. But if ever a show had ‘hit’ stamped on it, it’s Outrageous Weddings, with its mix of tears, laughter, fights, pranks and bad behaviour. We’re confident that many more broadcasters will follow Seven’s lead — the weddings featured in the series may not have been the bride and groom’s perfect day, but they make for perfect television,” said David Notman-Watt, founder and managing director, back2back.
The Brighton-based production company has also booked an order from Quest in the UK and Discovery Germany for a third series of its exclusive-access series Mega Shippers (10 x 60 mins). The series takes viewers ‘back-stage’ to reveal the complex inner workings of some of the world’s busiest road, rail, air and sea ports.
Due to be delivered in the second quarter of 2020, Mega Shippers 3 is executive produced by Rob Holloway for Quest, and David Notman-Watt and Stef Wagstaffe for back2back. It is produced by Chris Barham and distributed by Hat Trick International.
Simon Downing, SVP, head of factual and sport, Discovery said: “Our audience enjoy authentic shows that showcase the difficulties faced by individuals in some of the world’s toughest jobs. We’re pleased to be able to bring them the third series of Mega Shippers, a hugely popular observational work-place series, offering viewers an unfiltered look into the extraordinary process of international shipping.”
Mega Shippers is the second recent commission for back3back from Quest. In July, Discovery ordered a third season of Scrap Kings, set to air on Quest in mid 2020.
