Spanish broadcast engineering firm Albalá Ingenieros has won the rights to supply infrastructure equipment for the digital transmissions centre (CED) and teleport for the Colombian national broadcasting service Radiotelevisión de Colombia (RTVC).

Deployed through Colombian distributor ADTEL Latam, the Albalá equipment will be used for signal transmission of transport streams from the output of main and backup multiplexors of the CED to the T2M1 Gateway - one dark fibre optic for each multiplexed signal for the RTVC, Canal Capital and Canal 13 TV channels. Each of these signals will be transmitted over the main and back-up paths via independent fibre optic cables.

Starting from the teleport, eight signals, six in SDI/HD and two in ASI, will be wavelength multiplexed and sent to the transmission centre over a single dark fibre optic. At the CED the wavelength de-multiplexor operates and delivers the same eight signals.

In both cases, the planned infrastructure will process video for tasks such as distribution, switching, IP-to-ASI conversion and vice versa. All the equipment will be housed in mounting frames from the Albalá Ingenieros TL2000 and TL3000 families.

The equipment supplied, which will be used for conversion and transmission of HD-SDI video signals between the Radiotelevisión de Colombia CED and the teleport for 24-7 broadcasting via satellite, consists principally of the following modules: SFP modules designed specifically to operate with both SDI video (SD/HD/3G) as well as DVB-ASI signals; a dual digital video electrical-to-optical and vice versa signal converter; a four-port gigabit Ethernet switch which can also function as a communications controller. For signal distribution, the modules included are a dual SDI-format digital video distributor for signals at 3Gbit/s (3G), 1.5 Gbit/s (HD) and 270 Mbit/s; an advanced communications controller for modules from the TL3000 family; fibre optic signal links.
