Free streaming service Pluto TV has added the award-winning and longest running drama franchise in Canadian history, Degrassi, to its line-up with a pop-up channel for viewers in the US and UK.

The Pluto TV channel is now showcasing two of the franchise’s most popular series, Degrassi: The Next Generation and its follow-up Degrassi.

Airing from 2001 to 2009, Degrassi: The Next Generation, is a teen drama TV series dealing with real-life issues of high school life. The show’s original cast includes Drake (then Aubrey Graham), playing school basketballer Jimmy Brooks throughout the first eight seasons, as well as Nina Dobrev portraying Mia Jones. The series follows Jimmy and his fellow students as they experience all of their firsts on their journey into adulthood. The series also shines a light on highly relevant and charged social and cultural topics, such as abuse, homophobia, mental disorders, gang crime and teen pregnancy.

Degrassi is the continuation of Degrassi: The Next Generation, beginning in the tenth season in 2010. The spin-off continues to capture the joy and angst of contemporary teenage life at Degrassi Community School. Restructured into a telenovela format with over 40 episodes a season, Degrassi focusses on in-depth, subtle storytelling and character study. The show ended in 2015.

The Degrassi franchise is owned and distributed by the Canadian kids and family media company, WildBrain.
