Discovery deploys Synamedia digital content manager in Asia Pacific business

As it aims to increase operational efficiencies with its Asia Pacific distribution, leading entertainment firm Discovery has chosen the Synamedia virtualised digital content manager (DCM) to support its transition to a cloud-based platform.

Discovery is centralising its Asia Pacific uplink compression systems to its Sterling ,Virginia broadcast centre. An existing Synamedia PowerVu customer, it is now turning to the broadcast tech supplier’s virtualised DCM to distribute signals across regions. The platform, which complements traditional satellite distribution, is designed to enable Discovery to transition efficiently its distribution architecture to an IP-based virtualised video processing environment while protecting its revenue.

Discovery has also deployed Synamedia’s PowerVu Network Centre to distribute securely its live linear international channels from hardware to a virtualised environment in the US to feed the Asia Pacific region distribution. The DCM’s adaptability and distribution capabilities will allow Discovery to continue delivering the quality content its dedicated audience has come to rely on.
