MOBITV teams with Telia Carrier to offer streaming TV app connectivity

App-based TV video delivery solutions provider MOBITV IP is to base its services on Telia Carrier’s global IP backbone to provide scalable capacity and connectivity for pay-TV operator customers across the US.

MOBITV says that for what it calls a first-rate viewing experience, video consumers need consistently reliable, redundant and robust connectivity to the app-based TV video provider’s data centre. This connectivity challenge has been particularly noticeable as the company has expanded throughout the US.

Telia Carrier’s global fibre backbone is claimed as the first network to successfully transmit 1 Tb/s in super channels in the US and recently announced the first real-time transmission of 600Gb/s wavelengths in a live production network.

With Telia Carrier’s US network footprint, MOBITV customers can now get direct access to the MOBITV datacentre from more than 100 points of presence (PoPs) located throughout the country. Most importantly, direct access to Telia Carrier’s scalable and redundant backbone is said to be able to deliver the low-latency, high-capacity connectivity demanded by streaming video. Other benefits of the deal include the ability for MOBITV operator customers to gain flexibility in both cost and service level, whilst maintaining a high quality of experience for their end-users.
