Red Bee Media claims to have successfully demonstrated software-defined video encoding and statistical multiplexing on its private cloud infrastructure in its London Red Lab facilities.

The video encoding service is designed to complement other Red Bee services including playout, global master control room and OTT services. The company says that the combination of software defined components and its scalable private cloud infrastructure can provide a flexibility for broadcasters that was previously unavailable with traditional appliance-based platforms.

“Red Bee is at the forefront of innovation, including in the industry push towards moving from HD-SDI to an all IP and software-based infrastructure,” said the company’s head of distribution services Kristian Langbridge. “With our private cloud environment, we have managed to reduce complexity and deployment time significantly when it comes to video encoding and multiplexing.”
