Nicky Morgan stays on as culture secretary

Nicky Morgan is to remain as culture secretary in Boris Johnson’s government, despite standing down from her parliamentary seat at the General Election.
The conservative politician has been given a life peerage allowing her to continue in the role, despite stepping down as an MP.
The move angered Labour and the Lib Dems, who say they won’t be able to hold her to account, though some commentators believe the move may only be temporary.
Former Ofcom chief executive Stephen Carter served in the Lords in the junior post of Minister for Communications, Technology and Broadcasting during Gordon Brown’s Labour administration.
