Red Arrow Studios International has revealed its first wave of deals for gameshow format Block Out which has been sold to Endemol Shine Iberia for Spain and Portugal, Tin Can for the Netherlands and GM6 for France.
In the new format, two teams of four players – each with their backs literally against a wall – battle it out in a variety of physical games, combining trivia, strategy, and chance. The teams’ identical walls comprise more than 100 giant blocks. During two rounds, wrong answers and bad judgments see blocks push out in a variety of combinations and speeds, forcing contestants into crazy positions to try and avoid being knocked into a pit below them.
The team which keeps at least one contestant on the wall wins the round. The final sees both teams stand on their ledges above the pit. Incorrect answers make the entire wall creep forward, pushing contestants to the edge – and over it. As soon as one team has disappeared, the other is declared the winner and takes the cash prize.
Originally created by Nippon TV and Red Arrow Studios, the programme made its debut in Thailand, where it proved to be a ratings winner for Channel 7 and subsequently sold to VTV in Vietnam and ANTV in Indonesia.
Red Arrow Studios Internationals holds worldwide rights (excluding Asia) to Block Out and commenting on the deals, president Bo Stehmeier said: “Part of our formats strategy is creating and representing energetic, bold and hilarious studio-based shows like Block Out, which the whole family can enjoy together. We’re looking forward to building on Block Out’s success in Asia and introducing audiences across Europe to this engaging and colourful series.
