Datsit Sphere acquires BGM assets

Setting its sights on global expansion and taking advantage of the financial difficulties at the fellow Canadian media firm, Quebec production Datsit Sphere has completed the acquisition of factual and kids production company BGM from the Kew Media Group.
Datsit Sphere is one of Quebec’s most prominent TV and film content creation, adaptation, production and distribution companies and is best known for primetime drama and comedy Transplant, 19-2, Rumours and This Life. It has worked in the audiovisual sector for over 35 years with well-established Montreal and Toronto offices.
The acquisition of BGM represents the company’s first foray into English language factual entertainment and said the firm was a clear signal of its ambition and expansion into the global market.
“Our strategy for some time has been to create a completely diverse, talented network of creatives,” commented president and CEO Bruno Dubé. “BGM is one of the leaders of the Canadian domestic production scene and more crucially for us, a significant player in the international market. This acquisition is a building block towards realising our plans to create a global, sustainable, independent production group capable of producing quality entertainment across all genres and platforms.”
Formerly Bristow Global Media, BGM was formed in 2013 to create multi-genre, multiplatform content and is now headed by CEO Marlo Miazga (pictured) after founder Julie Bristow left the company in November 2019. BGM has subsequently grown into a global entertainment company with a wide range of productions and an international reputation for premium factual content including Haunted Hospitals, Paranormal 911 and the upcoming Paranormal Nightshift. On the kids front BGM is the producer of Backyard Beats and It’s My Party.
Giving her take on the acquisition, she said: “In 2019 BGM Inc entered into a new and exciting stage of growth and scale, expanding both our premium factual and kids’ divisions; rolling out over 5 new series into the global marketplace. Datsit Sphere’s diverse slate of content, across multiple platforms and genres, makes it the perfect home for our escalating ambitions.
