IPTV becomes pay-TV winner

A study from Digital TV Research of the leading 138 TV countries has calculated that driven by growth in emerging markets, pay-TV subscriptions increased by 16 million to 1.028 billion in 2019 over the last year, with IPTV a key engine.
digital TV research IPTV 17 August 2020Indeed, the latest excerpt of the Pay TV Databook shows that in the industry IPTV is the “pay-TV winner”. The analyst found that IPTV added 49 million subscribers in 2019 to take its total to 307 million. By contrast, pay satellite TV fell by 6 million subscribers in 2019. Digital cable TV lost 1 million subs, and analogue cable TV shed 25 million subs.
Excluding analogue cable TV, Digital TV Research said that digital pay-TV growth was really impressive, surging from 380 million subscribers in 2010 onto 991 million at the end of 2019.
The new report comes hot on the heels of a Digital TV Research study that showed that the Covid-19 lockdowns have driven the subscription video-on-demand market to unprecedented heights.
