Latin America SVOD market set to surpass 100MN million subs

A study from Digital TV Research is predicting a boom time for the Latin American subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) market with the number of customers set to more than double between the end of 2019 and 2025 to 100.35 million.
DigTV research Latamsvod 1 Sep2020By individual territory, the Latin America SVOD Forecasts report found Brazil will remain the market leader, with 36 million SVOD subscriptions forecast by 2025 – up by 20 million on 2019. Mexico will have 28 million gross SVOD subs by 2025, up by 16 million on 2019.
Company-wise, Latin America is set to experience a wave of US-based platform launches over the next year. Digital TV Research noted that despite poor economic conditions in a number countries, the popular Disney+ service will become available in the region from November with Hulu, HBO Max and ViacomCBS are all expected to start during 2021.
Despite the extra competition, long-established SVOD market leader Netflix will likely continue to grow but its dominance is set for decline. The Latin America SVOD Forecasts report predicts that Netflix will have 47.4 million subscriptions by 2025, up from 31.4 million in 2019. Disney+ is expected to grow rapidly following its November 2020 launch, with 25 million subs by 2025.
