Magyar Telekom maintains pay-TV lead

The Hungarian incumbent Magyar Telekom ended July with an overall share of 32.2% of the country’s pay-TV market.

This, according to data published by the regulator NMHH, was up from 31% a month earlier.

It was followed by Digi, which saw its share fall from 29.2% to 28.9% over the same period. Meanwhile, third placed Vodafone’s share remained unchanged at 18.8% and UPC, in fourth place, fell from 6.2% to 6.1%.

In July, slightly more than 4 million households in Hungary used almost 3.6 million subscription services. All told, the ten leading providers had a total of 3.417 million pay-TV subscribers.

Over four in five (81.2%) of subscribers opted for digital services.

Within this total, cable or IPTV accounted for 1.995 million, up from 1.992 million a month earlier.\\

Wireless services had 694,000 subscribers and the pay-DTT service MinDig TV Extra 87,000.
