How to repair a Windows installation?

I found an old HDD with Windows 7, when I turn the PC on , it starts the Windows 7 loading screen, and then it crashes with BAD DRIVER (or something like that), but it's too fast so I can't exactly see details

Startup Repair doesn't work either.

I found a Windows 7 installation DVD and I tried to use it to repair Windows, but it tells me that the version of Windows 7 on the DVD does not match the Windows 7 installed on the HDD

What steps should I do in order to make it boot?

Hi Why dont you burn to DVD a copy of Hirens Boot CD ...You then boot Windows Xp from Hirens DVD that you created..You then have loads of tools at your disposal to investigate whats wrong with your HDD and try to recover it or you can format it and retry your installation of your Windows 7 again. The Hirens Boot CD is a very useful tool to have...You can also burn it to USB if you have no DVD drive..Just Google Hirens Boot CD and you will find it..If your laptop is not working ask a friend or relative to help you download it.
