Pay-TV revenues fall in Spain

Spanish pay-TV revenues in Q3 2020 amounted to €526.1 million, or 2.1% less than a year earlier.

At the same time, according to the latest data published by the regulator CNMC, the number of pay-TV subscribers increased by 15.5%, or 1 million, to 8 million.

IPTV (fibre and xDSL) was the technology most used, with 4.8 million subscribers.

Meanwhile, TV ad revenues in Q3 amounted to €326 million. Although these were very similar to the previous year, they were in sharp contrast to the historic drop of 45% in the second quarter.

Average TV consumption was 3 hours and 5 minutes per person per day, or one hour less than in the previous quarter.

The most viewed channels were Telecinco, Antena 3 and La 1, with audiences of 14.1%, 11.7% and 8.8% respectively, and Mediaset and Atresmedia were the market leaders, with 28.7 and 26.3 audience share points in the quarter respectively.

DTT accounted for 76% of TV consumption, followed by 22.9% for cable and IPTV and 1.5% for DTH.
