Disney+ has “no plans for Russia”

Disney+ will not launch in Russia in near future.

Quoting Elena Brodskaya, VP for marketing for Disney in Russia, Telesputnik adds that the absence of the streaming service is a positive factor, especially for traditional film distribution. While Disney content goes online in the US, it appears in cinemas in Russia on pre-set dates.

Brodskaya also said that local legislation, including a 20% limit on the foreign ownership of audiovisual services, as well as widespread piracy, are factors preventing the launch of Disney+ in the country.

Broadband TV News notes that Disney+ is expected to launch in several CEE markets, including Poland, the Czech Republic and Slovakia, at some stage this year.
