DIRECTV said its original series, DIRECTV Hometown Heroes, will debut April 6 on its original entertainment channel, The 101. The series hosted by Joan Lunden chronicles members of the DIRECTV family who make a difference in their community.
TECHNOLOGY - Intelsat said it partnered with iDirect, a unit of satellite-based IP communications technology company VT Systems, for the launch of the World Vision's global network, SandukaNet. World Vision is a global relief and development agency. Also, Intelsat said it formed an alliance with SISLink, a provider of satellite uplink services in Europe, for an HD-ready automated video delivery service for satellite newsgathering users in the United States.
INTERNATIONAL - Hughes Network Systems said it received the 2007 Eastern European and Commonwealth of Independent States Market Leadership Award from Frost and Sullivan. The company said the award recognizes its commitment to providing VSAT solutions to the market.
