IPTV takes off in Moldova

The IPTV market saw significant growth in Moldova in 2020.

According to the regulator ANRCETI, it ended the year with 210,700 subscribers, or 16.7% more than in 2019.

At the same time, the volume of sales increased by 45.2% to MDL129.6 million (€6 million).

The total number of pay-TV subscribers (cable and IPTV) rose by 7.6% in 2020 to 360,900. Meanwhile, pay-TV penetration rose by 3.5pp to 41%.

The majority of subscribers (58.4%) opted for IPTV and the remainder cable. Over three-quarters (78.9%) of subscribers were digital, a 7.3pp increase on the previous year. Pay-TV sales rose by 18% to MDL184.7 million and ARPU was up by 12.9% to MDL44.2.

In revenue terms, Moldtelecom was the market leader (35%), followed by TV Box (32%), Orange Moldova (6%) and others (27%).
