Following its outright cancellation last year as the continent of Europe struggled to cope with Covid-19 lockdowns and travel restrictions, Europe’s leading broadcast trade show IBC will be again missing its usual September slot this year but will return three months later.

Show organisers have confined that the 2021edition will take place from 3-6 December at its traditional home of the RAI in Amsterdam as part of a hybrid format. In addition to onsite in Amsterdam, IBC says that its 250,000-strong community will also be able to engage through the IBC Digital platform that was used in the virtual-only event a year ago. IBC believes that the combination will deliver new opportunities for exhibitors, speakers and show attendees to share information and experiences.

The announcement to have an on-site event in December follows a decision at IBC Partnership Board and is said to be driven by IBC criteria for a safe and valuable event with tangible benefits for all participants. The organisers say that they made their call supported by feedback from exhibitor and visitor surveys, and vaccine roll-out progress.

“Following a period of industry consultation, the IBC Partnership Board has agreed that December is the best date in terms of safety and industry readiness to engage. Our conclusion is based on the results of the recent IBC exhibitor and visitor surveys and macro evidence of Europe opening up for business,” said IBC chief executive Michael Crimp. “We really value the feedback and candid input of our community — we have always been ‘by the industry, for the industry, and this ethos continues to guide our daily decision-making process.”
