IPTV drives pay-TV growth in Moldova

Pay-TV revenues in Moldova were 3.1% higher in the first quarter than in the same period last year.

According to the regulator ANRCETI, they amounted to MDL47 million (€2.18 million), while at the same time the number of subscribers increased by 0.6% over the year to around 363,000.

ANRCETI notes that IPTV was the main growth driver, with revenues in the sector increasing by 13.6% to MDL34.8 million.

Meanwhile, cable revenues fell by MDL18.4% to MDL12.2 million.

As a result, ARPU for pay-TV services fell by 2.8% to MDL43.3.

The IPTV subscriber base increased by 2.1% to 215,000, while that for cable TV fell by 1.6% to around 148,000.

Pay-TV penetration per 100 households increased by 0.2 pp to 41.2% compared to the end of 2020.

Digital subscriptions accounted for 80.7% of the total as of the end of Q1.

In turnover terms, Moldtelecom had the highest share in Q1 (35.1%), followed by TV Box (34.8%) and Orange Moldova (5.6%), with other providers having a combined total of 24.5%.
