OTT white paper shows exclusive still secret to subscriber retention

A new white paper released today by Magine and Broadband TV News shows exclusive content is still a significant factor is attracting and holding customers.

OTT Discovery: How to Stand Out Amongst the Crowd takes you through some of the key trends in online video customer behaviour and the features that can differentiate a service.

While exclusive content, from blockbuster movies through to premium sports rights, has always been a key element in running a pay-TV business, the content can now be leveraged through marketing and search aggregation services like JustWatch. “With an increasing number of consumers relying on online searches to help decide what to watch, presence on online video comparison guides will be crucial in driving viewership,” says the report author, Omdia’s Tony Gunnarson.

The aggregation services scan multiple video streaming services to discover content.

Magine Pro partner, FlixOle, an la carte cinema service from Spain, is a recent convert to JustWatch. “Integrating our metadata into their system had a very positive effect on business and communication. On the one hand, since the beginning of this association, it brings us an important source of traffic directly from its page to our content, being the sixth source of traffic for,” says General Manager Sophie de Mac Mahon.

She adds it’s now an important source of traffic for the service.
