Fewer than one in five (15%) of people in the Czech Republic watched content on such paid-for services as Netflix and HBO Go this year.

However, according to the Czech Statistical Office (CSU), this was higher than in 2020 (10.5%) and more especially 2019, when the total was only 3%.

Most people (29%) who watch paid videos are in the age range 25-34, followed by those aged 16-24 (25%).

A high proportion (33%) was also recorded amongst university graduates. CSU also notes that in 2021 58% of people aged 16+ watched videos on such sites as YouTube, representing a year-on-year increase of five percentage points.

Furthermore, around a third (34%) of Czechs watched programmes from providers free of charge on the internet, using devices such as PCs, smartphones or smart TVs.

This figure decreased with age, from 47% of those aged 16-24 to 4% aged over 75.
