The Slovak public broadcaster RTVS has announced it will cease using the MPEG-2 compression format for terrestrial broadcasting in December 13.

After that, it will employ solely MPEG-4 and offer all its broadcast services in HD.

RTVS currently operates three terrestrial channels and earlier this month said it will launch a new sports channel on December 20.

Known as RTVS Sport HD, it will be broadcast in terrestrial DVB-T networks in both HEVC and MPEG-4.
