TV and radio revenues in Spain exceeded €1 billion in the second quarter of this year.
This, according to the regulator CNMC, was 24.4% more than in the same period in 2020, which coincided with start of the pandemic lockdown. It adds that the actual amount of €1,014.2 million excluded subsidies and that within that total TV and radio advertising claimed €540.3 million, a year-on-year recovery of almost 70%. The two main TV groups, Mediaset and Atresmedia, accounted for 83.8% of TV ad revenues.
DTT consumption continued to fall and amounted to 74.5% of the total in Q2, with cable and IPTV increasing to 24%.
Meanwhile, the most viewed channels were Telecinco, Antena 3 and La 1, with audiences of 16.1%, 13.6% and 8.2% respectively. By groups, Mediaset and Atresmedia were the leaders, with 29.5 and 27.4 audience share points in the quarter respectively.
CNMC notes that the number of pay-TV subscribers stood at 8.3 million, or 111,000 fewer than the previous quarter.
Furthermore, IPTV, through fibre or xDSL networks, was the most used technology, with almost 4.8 million subscribers.
