Refunds for DAZN Italy customers after latest blackouts

DAZN Italy has promised the country’s authorities that it will issue partial refunds to subscribers after the latest series of interruptions to its service.

The streamer has gained a reputation among Serie A fans for its frequent breaks in service. Bosses of the London-based operation, which has exclusive rights to the majority of Italy’s top-flight football, pledged to refund a quarter of the cost of a monthly subscription.

They had been summoned to a meeting by Italian government ministers and Serie A executives following the latest blackout during last Wednesday’s Serie A match between Inter Milan and Napoli.

DAZN’s Italian service has been plagued with technical issues since it acquired Serie A rights in 2021.

DAZN, backed by billionaire Sir Len Blavatnik, is paying €840 million per season for the next three years to broadcast Serie A in Italy, as the lead broadcaster for the competition.

It has tightened up on the number of devices under a €29.99 standard monthly subscription, restricting to two devices assigned to the same IP address.

The top tier €39.99 subscription allows two out of a total of six devices to be connected to a single event at any one time.
