Italy’s Serie A may launch its own video service offering live coverage of football matches if broadcasters do not improve their offers for rights.

Quoted by Reuters, Serie A chief executive Luigi De Siervo added it has the structure of offer matches directly to viewers.

Serie A held talks with DAZN, Sky Italia and MediaForEurope about the live rights for five seasons beginning 2024-25. However, none were willing to offer at least €1 billion a season for the rights sought by Serie A football clubs.

The current rights, until June next year, are worth €930 million, with DAZN holding the lion’s share.

As previously reported by Broadband TV News, Serie A postponed a decision on the rights in July and was expected to make a decision in October.
