TelevisaUnivision has revealed that Akta is the technology partner powering the live streaming, FAST channels, SVOD and AVOD that make up its ViX Spanish language streaming service. A cloud video platform provides channel scheduling, streaming and DAI.

TelevisaUnivision considers itself the world’s leading Spanish language media and content company and ViX is hailed as the world’s largest Spanish-language streaming service, “which is poised to redefine how Spanish-speaking audiences engage with digital content.”

Akta’s turnkey cloud video solution delivers content to all device platforms covered by the service, manages the video workflow (from content ingest to playback) and supports monetisation thanks to DAI (Dynamic Advertising Insertion).

“Akta is not only a full-suite solution for video workflow, live streaming, FAST channel scheduling and dynamic ad insertion, but also has the ability to dynamically and seamlessly scale,” says Michael Cerda, Chief Product Officer of VIX. “ViX is growing fast, and Akta has been paramount to our work to date. The platform’s cloud native ability to automatically scale the video infrastructure with DRM and dynamic ad insertion was a key criterion for selecting their services.”

ViX, which is available as a premium subscription tier or free with advertising, offers over 100 streaming channels and more than 75,000 hours of on-demand content, all in Spanish, covering the U.S., Mexico and most of Spanish-speaking Latin America. The streaming service is available on all major mobile platforms, connected TV devices, and browser.

The content spans live news and sport, movies, comedy series, novellas, drama series, children's content and more. In its first year, the premium plan included 7,000 hours of live sports and over 70 ViX+ Original series and movies.
