Ad tax may return in Hungary

Hungarian companies face the prospect of an advertising tax being reintroduced from next year.

Portfolio reports that this is the conclusion reached by Telex based on the draft of the autumn tax package. Although this does not include an advertising tax, there is still some uncertainty surrounding it. Indeed, an advertising tax was introduced in 2014 and operated on a progressive basis, from 0-50%. However, it has been set at 0% this year.

As previously reported by Broadband TV News, the Hungarian government has already announced that it will abolish the utility tax payment obligation of electronic telecommunication providers from January 2024.

It will also abolish the supplementary telecommunications tax from January 2025.
