Apple to remove standalone Movies and TV Shows apps from Apple TV

Apple is getting ready to discontinue its dedicated iTunes Movies and iTunes TV Shows apps on the Apple TV box.

A warning message advising of the change declaring “iTunes Movies and Your Purchases Have Moved” has begun to be shown on the new tvOS 17.2 beta, released Tuesday.

Instead, Apple points users directly to its TV app where they can manage their purchases and buy or rent movies and series from the store, bringing everything under the Apple TV+ umbrella.

The demise of iTunes mirrors that seen in the desktop environment where it has become the separate Apple Music and Apple Podcasts.

For the time being the tiles for iTunes Movies and TV Shows remain on the home screen. Given that the message displays when either app is shown, it seems likely that the tiles themselves will also disappear in a future update.

There is also a new sidebar menu that points towards TV+, MLS Season Pass, Store, and Library.
