Channel 4 is this week expected to announce a series of job cuts as the commercially funded PSB struggles with a downturn in broadcast advertising.

Up to 250 roles are expected to be lost, a figure that represents 15% of its permanent workforce of 1,300 people.

Sky News, which first reported the severity of the cuts, said that while the number of redundancies would remain at 200, an additional 50 roles were now being also being lost.

The figure represents the largest number of job losses in the broadcaster’s 42 year history.

In recent months Channel 4 has pivoted away from its linear channels and towards streaming, which has been rebranded as simply ‘Channel 4’.

It also fought-off an ill-conceived attempt at privatisation launched by the Boris Johnson government.
