Innovation fails to halt Swisscom subscriber errosion

A new set-top box and a new subscription package weren’t enough for Swisscom to hold on to all of its subscribers in 2023.
The operator saw its installed based erode by 2.2%, leaving 1,537,000 subscribers to its Blue TV package at the end of December.
Despite the losses, telco Swisscom recorded slightly higher revenue of CHF 11,072 million and higher EBITDA of CHF 4,622 million (+4.9%).
The new Android TV-based TV-Box 5 launched last October. At half the size of its predecessor it is also 35% more energy efficient. With its blue SuperMax annual subscription, Swisscom has also launched an exclusive package combining Disney+, Paramount+, Sky Cinema and blue Max for CHF 24.90 per month: a saving of more than 35% compared to the individual prices, and the first operator in Switzerland to do so.
Swisscom said that unlike its peers there were no plans for any general price increases until the end of 2024 at the earliest.
