G&L launches playout solution for German public broadcasters

German streaming solutions provider G&L is starting the first deployments of its G&L Playout Manager, a multi-tenant platform designed to transform live streaming event management for OTT delivery.

The managed service employs the Norsk Media SDK from id3as in its key component, the Compositor, enhancing the integration of HTML5 overlays with video signals for seamless broadcast-quality streams. The first deployments are going to be with two large German public broadcasters, including WDR, the ARD affiliate serving federal state North-Rhine Westphalia.

The Playout Manager utilises a ‘Molecules and Atoms’ framework, allowing flexibility and scalability in live production environments. Each component, or ‘atom’, such as the Graphics Manager, Compositor and Channel Manager, can be individually configured. This modular approach enables customers to tailor the platform according to their specific needs, resulting in a customised ‘molecule’, according to G&L. Soon to be added is a Distribution Encoder component.

The G&L Playout Manager can be deployed on customer’s premises, in private clouds or in hosted environments. It can also be deployed in a G&L-provided cloud environment or on G&L-owned hardware.
