Problem logging on to SatFriends

Hi Tuesday,

Due to the huge ammount of visitors we have I had to restrict some usergroups. When the serverload reaches 10.00 (1000% Usage) all guests will see the message: The server is currently too busy to hangle your request. You will be redirected for retry in X seconds.
The bypass function for registerred was build in 2 days ago.
Due to this all registerred users (email address confirmed) can continue on FunFiles without any problems. However, when it's very busy and the load reaches 15.00 (1500% Usage) also registerred user will get that message untill the load is back below 15.00.
To prevent the message, make sure your logged on to your account. Then you'll only see the server too busy warning when the server really is too busy. Usually the load stays well below 10.00 so it shouldn't be a problem when your logged in.
If I would remove the server too busy script the site would be slow for all users and unreachable at most times. so I really think this is the best way to keep the site optimal for our members.

Im aware this site is very busy now and with over 100,000 members it can be bit of a handful to manage, however, im always getting the site busy error message even when signed in and have to wait around 10 mins before it will let me back in. I feel the site is now too busy and the server cannot cope. Is the server going to be upgraded soon to cope with all of us?

We apologise for the delays, but the site is being continually upgraded. Many of the original bells and whistles have been dispensed with, Moved to faster Server, memory upgrades, scripts upgraded, and the list is endless.

The problem is the price range. and that I don't have a credit card.
I'm using paypal to pay for the hosting and need to transfer money from my bank account to my paypal each month. And ofcourse my paypal account has limits because there's no credit card attached to it.
Currently the monthly server costs are 80 US dollars and 10 US dollars for an expanded uplink port speed. If I would upgrade the server it would cost at least 299 dollars a month only for the server. Which I need to pay for myself and I can't transfer such ammounts using paypal due to the limitations.
I've done everything in my power to make the site as light as can be.
2 weeks ago I build in a system which shows the server too busy warning to guests first. When the server reaches his limits it will also display that message for registered users, but only when the server really is busy.
When the server is less busy again it will allow registered users back in. and when the server runs on normal usage also guests can enter.
Also bought a ram upgrade last month from donator money. We have enough spare memory the only problem is cpu power.
Yesterday we broke another record.. 189.000 unique visitors in 1 day.. which really is our limit at the moment.. and without the server too busy warning, the server would have been down all day.

Just finished a nice day of work..

Upgraded Apache
Upgraded MySQL
Upgraded PHP
Installed new cache engine APC.
Tweaked Apache
Tweaked MySQL.
Tweaked new cache engine APC.

Serverload reduced by approx 30%
Hopefully it's enough to handle all those new visitors because there's nothing much I can do more to optimize this server.
