Google is planning an update to its Android TV OS, the first major update to the TV software in over two years.
In a blog post, timed to coincide with Google I/O, its developer conference held at its Mountain View HQ, Shobana Radhakrishnan – Senior Director of Engineering, Google TV, and Paul Lammertsma – Developer Relations Engineer said Android 14 for TV would provide a more responsive TV experience.
Picture-in-picture mode is now supported on qualified Android 14 TV models, and there are also new energy modes to reduce the amount of power used while in standby.
New features include color correction, enhanced text options, and improved navigation for users, which can all be toggled on or off using remote shortcuts.
Improved input support and performance will also address focus issues and ensure that the UI appears and animates smoothly.
Google reports a 47% increase in active devices that now stand at 220 million.
