CityFibre founder and CEO to leave company

CityFibre has confirmed that its founder and chief executive officer, Greg Mesch, is to step down for personal reasons. The company has announced he will be replaced as CEO by the current Chief Operating Officer Simon Holden.

Mesch has led CityFibre for 15 years during which time the alternative broadband network has grown to reach over 4.5 million premises and 700,000 customers. He will now take up a new role as vice chairman.

CityFibre is also a key delivery partner in the UK government’s digital agenda.

Holden joined CityFibre in 2019 as Group Chief Operating Officer and Board member. He has over 25 years’ experience in telecoms and infrastructure, and before joining CityFibre, was a partner at Goldman Sachs where he held senior roles in the Investment Banking division including Global Chief Operating Officer, Vice-Chairman EMEA and Global Head of Telecom Investment Banking.

CityFibre chairman Steve Holliday said over 15 years Mesch had been “tirelessly committed to transforming the UK’s telecoms market for the benefit of consumers and the broader economy”. He added that Holden was a “proven leader” who held “deep institutional knowledge make him the ideal person to guide CityFibre through its next stage of growth”.

CityFibre is the UK’s third-largest broadband network, supplying fibre connections to retail providers including Vodafone, TalkTalk, and Sky, its newest customer.
