MediaForEurope (MFE), the Italian media group controlled by the Berlusconi family, is in exclusive negotiations to purchase a “relevant stake” in Portuguese media group Impresa, owner of broadcaster SIC and the weekly Expresso.
Impresa confirmed that Balseger holding is speaking “exclusively with MFE” on the potential acquisition. However, Reuters reports both parties are emphasising that no binding agreement has yet been sealed.
Balseger is the controlling shareholder in Impresa with more than 50% of the company.
Acquiring Impresa would deepen MFE’s Iberian presence (in which it already operates in Spain) and further expand its pan-European ambitions. Only recently, the company secured more than 75% of ProSiebenSat.1 in Germany.
By bringing Impresa into its fold, MFE would gain control over one of Portugal’s leading commercial broadcasters – offering scale in content, audience reach and advertising operations across markets.
In 2024, Impresa recorded a net loss of €66.2 million, largely driven by impairment charges. Its revenue for the year held steady at approximately €182.3 million, while its EBITDA rose 19.5% to €18.4 million.
